the rule(s): To double or not to double?
?run is it runing or running? runer or runner; runy or runny?
Ask yourself these questions:

  • Is it a short word? (5 letters or less)
  • NO - then just add the ending
  • Yes does it end with CVC (a single consonant, then a vowel, then a consonant?)
  • No -then just add the ending
  • Yes - then double the final consonant before adding the ending.
This doesn't work for absolutely everything but is still a good rule.
