Page Hopper

I wrote this page when I was 11 (2001) and at St Bede's Prep School in Eastbourne. I will leave this page on as it may be of interest.

On this page is info about various products that might be helpful for dyslexics. I am always going to be really honest with these reviews but they are only MY opinion. Other dyslexics with other problems may find them very different.

If you have something that you would like me to try and then report back on this page, please fill out the products form by clicking
here. Thanks

Apple

Apple computers are brilliant for dyslexics. I have an apple iBook and its just been really good for me - light, stylish, and great battery life. If you want to learn more please go to my 'Computers & Typing' page or the Apple website.

Dyslexic.com Dyslexic.com firstly provide loads of usefull advice for dyslexics and secondly can provide basically everything a dyslexic could need from Apple and Windows laptops to software and books. They also sell the Quicklink and Reading pens which I got from them. Please click here to see there reviews.

listening books This is a amazing charity that lends out  as many tapes as you can listen to in a year. If you find reading books difficult but want to hear all the stories that your friends are reading this is for you. If you want to learn more please go to the 'Books' page or their website.

TintaVision

Tintavision test people with dyslexia and other reading problems and often they find that a coloured overlay helps people read better and more quickly. I have had 3 sessions with Tintavision over the last 6 months and I have definitely found that the specially selected coloured background on the computer has been helpful. It is so much better than white and I seem to be able to work for longer and more comfortably using it. I also use the overlays when I read - I think there has been some improvement but I still can't read as well as I would like. I will definitely keep going with the overlays and the background colors and I will write more about it soon. You can click on the link above to go to Tintavisions website and get more info. The background is also good because although it may look blue on the screen it comes out normally when the work is printed. This is lucky as printer ink is very very very expensive.

magnifico

I am trying out The Visual Tracking magnifier. This is a small magnifier that stops the pattern glare that confuses dyslexics. Details can be found from Magnifico's website. Please click here for my review on it.

This was done with the Wacom Pen Partner

The Wacom Pen Partner is a drawing pad with a pen that you can use. As you move the pen round the pad it moves the mouse. When you tap the pad it clicks. With this you can write and draw easly into any grafics program or Word for diagrams. Please click here for my review on it.

Quick Link Pen

The QuickLink Pen is a "Digital Highlighter" for scanning information when you are away from your PC, in the library or on the move. Scan and store line by line, and then download it to your PC. Ideal for taking notes and quotes. Please click here for my review of it.

The Reading Pen

This is a portable hand-held dictionary for people who have difficulty decoding or understanding words. It scans a word, shows it on its screen, reads it aloud, and also will read aloud a dictionary definition. Dyslexic people often have trouble using dictionaries, but need to use them a lot. The Reading Pen makes it simple. Please click here for my review of it.

dragon

Dragon Dictate

I have had the most up to date version of Dragon Dictate for about 3 months now. I used to have a very old version (version 2.52b) which I tried out when I was about 9 but I can already tell that this new version is much better. I have been disappointed that I have not really managed to try this out properly yet. I am using it on my mum's PC as it won't work on my mac. I have already lost all my training once as we had to reset the PC and now I can't find the registration number to set it up again. Any way I will have to ask for another number and then I will have another go. I am sure it ought to be brilliant for people like me but it definitely takes a lot of time to really get organised to use it.
