MY SITE
It is now the summer term and I have been back at school for over 3 weeks. I am getting lots of visitors from all over the world and I have decided to really improve my site.
I am going to change my server so that it is more reliable
this will also mean that I can have my own message board rather than have it redirected somewhere else. This should make it quicker.
It should make it all run much better - at least I hope it will.
I have to pay for this but I eventually hope to get some sponsorship if I can.
It will probably take me about a week to upload it with the new server.
I must find out how to make a good message board - I will be able to use cgi scripts but I am only just a beginner at this. If anyone could give me some help with this I would be very grateful.
I also want to make my quiz forms so that they can come straight to me without visitors having to open their email provider (like hotmail) - I think I can use cgi for this but I have to learn first!
FEEDBACK
As I shall be working hard on my site over this next week I would be very grateful if visitors could give me some feedback eg
Do you find the site easy to get round?
What improvements can I make?
Do all the pages load properly?
Are there any pages that are very slow?
Should I include something else?
Please let me know by filling out the feedback form which you can get to by clicking --> -->here<-- <--.
THE
My new Country quiz is starting to get entries - please keep entering. Please remember you are only allowed 3 guesses each week. The new clue goes on May 15th. There is a new clue each week so it gets easier as the month goes on. The other quizes both have regular people who enter and each time I get a few more entries. Please keep entering. Do remember to look in The Hall of Fame to see if you are a winner.
MESSAGE BOARD
I have had loads of messages which is brill - please keep sending them.
COURSES When I last wrote my news letter I was looking forward to going on an Apple Evening Course at our local College. Unfortunately I was not allowed to do it as Jane Hutchinson (who is the Programme manager for the evening classes at Eastbourne College of Art and Technology) said I was too young. I am really dissappointed because I wanted to learn about 'adobe photoshop' as they were using that software on the course. My dad had even arranged to come on the course with me but still she said no. It seems really stupid as The Corporate Services department at the same college is letting me attend Microsoft access courses. The access courses are whole day courses and the first one was brill. Everyone else was grown up but I don't think I spoilt it for anyone. I am going on the Intermediate one next week. I thought that people were not allowed to discriminate against age. I am sure I am OK to attend the Apple Course and now that they won't let me do it I am missing the chance to learn more about it - I would try and teach myself but I haven't got adobe photoshop. I wish I had it as I use 'paint' for all my web page pictures and I would like a programme that I could do more with. It is really annoying that software is so expensive.
CRICKET SCORING PROGRAMME I have now tried out my cricket programme with mixed success. I used it first for a practice match against our senior school.
The teachers decided to have 8 balls in each over as it was a practice. I was really pleased because my programme could cope with this as I had left room for extra balls because of no balls and wides.
But even worse they let 13 people bat. That was a disaster - I only had space for 11 and it made all my careful average calculations go wrong. Never mind!
I made a CD copy of the programme for the 2nd team scorer to use - this was a windows version. He found it worked OK but when he came to save it, the computer tried to save it on the CD which it obviously wouldn't and he did not think to save it on the computer's hard drive. In fact he did not save it at all and all the scores were lost!
My second match was away and there was no electricity - I did not trust my iBook's battery to last all the way through the match and so I used the paper version.
Here's to the next time!
