Over 4 years ago I started this website as an after school activity when I was at St Bede's Prep School in Eastbourne. We had an excellent IT department and we were taught how to make a website. I am not really quite sure why I made this one although I couldn't find a similar one so I thought I would have a go. I never dreamt that it would grow and become so successful. I have really enjoyed making and keeping up this website over the last 4 years but I am now trying to work out where to go from here.
I know I am dyslexic and will always be but having had lots of help and support since I was 3 years old I feel that it is just not a big deal for me any more. The strategies that I have developed over the years work just fine and as long as I am given a little extra time to read things through and allowed to use my laptop I actually feel no different from anyone else and I am very lucky as I just do not need anything extra - I can just work with everyone else.
I realise that I have been lucky to have had lots of help when I was young and that I have had the use of a laptop since I was 9 years old which has been brilliant for me. There are lots of people out there who have not been as lucky and I hope that this website will continue to help them get some ideas and strategies and that they realise that the future can be good.
I am really just like anyone else, whether they are dyslexic or not, and have strengths and weaknesses - eg as well as being terrible at spelling I am also even worse at singing and drawing! Perhaps I have been lucky that I think I now know what my strengths and weaknesses are so that I can build on them. Everyone has strengths and it is just a question of finding them and not letting the weaknesses take over.
