Summer 2006

Well it seems to be nearly a year since I last updated this. The year seems to have rushed by. I am now taking AS exams and visiting universities to see where I would like to go in September 2007. I think I have decided that I would like toread engineering.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award
I have almost completed my gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. I have just come back from an expedition in the Lake District - this was fun and the weather was not too bad. Unlike the previous one last October when I went to the Brecon Beacons - it rained all the way through and we all go absolutely drenched but at least I managed to finish somehow! I am doing a weeks residential engineering course at Surrey uni and then I just have a few more weeks to do to complete the other sections of the award. I have enjoyed doing this and am very pleased to think that very soon I will have the bronze, silver and gold awards.

Sailing Challenge
I was lucky to be involved in a school trip to the US at Easter - we visited a school over there and had a sailing challenge - actually it was a physics challenge and both schools had to design a remote control sailing boat. We raced them against each other - we had both home and away matches. It was very good fun to be part of the team and after an excellent competition we emerged the winners.

My exams
I am taking double maths, physics and chemistry AS levels this year and also a 'special relativity' course at Surrey Uni. I have really enjoyed the courses and it is brilliant not to have to do English or any of the essay subjects any more! I am also looking at the extra help that is available at university. I think I will be allowed some new computer equipment as long as I have an up to date assessment before I go. If anyone knows more about this I would be very grateful for some more information. I still really rely on my laptop - I just can't imagine how I would ever have got through school without it. I realise I have been very lucky as all the help I have had has made such a difference to me.

Surrey ICT Best Practice Day
I am still working at The Abbey School in my spare time. I have designed various pieces of software and databases and we plan to show these at the end of June at Sandown Park - I will add a link to this when I have more details.

So short!
I am sorry this is such a short newsletter but I just had 15 minutes and when I looked and realised that it was so out of date I decided it was better to write something rather than leave it any longer.

Old news
I still have my last newsletters and they can be read by clicking here. Also if you remember I used to have a news page, well I have put these back on, so please click here to go to them.
