Autumn 2006
I will still try and keep this news page fairly up to date although I have now learnt how to manage most of my dyslexic problems so this news page may not be as useful as in the past but hopefully it does show how, with help, it is possible to manage in the education system. I actually started school when I as 5 with a Statement of Special Educational Needs but modern technology has opened up so many paths for me. I still can't spell, indeed the spell check on 'word' still can't always recognose what I mean. Then there is the problem of choosing the correct word from the list! I have solved this my asking the computer to say the word out loud so that I can hear which is the correct word. This still doesn't solve the hear/here problems but I can just about manage. I have learnt so many little tricks that allow me to move forward.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award
I was really pleased to receive an official letter saying that I have now completed my gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. I have enjoyed doing these awards over the last 4 years and I do recommend them.
My exams
I have now got all the results from my AS levels. Luckily they went very well. I took double maths, physics and chemistry. My next challenge is to fill up the UCAS form and finally decide on the courses anf unis that I want to apply to.
Surrey ICT Best Practice Day
I preseted some new software that I have written at The ICT Best Practice Day at Sandown Park at the end of June. It was a fun but exhasting day. The Abbey School, where I have been helping as part of my D of E has been using a Datbase for recording all school incidents. I have tailored this for them over the last 2 years and it is now a very important part of their recording system.
So short!
