Summer 2007
I realise that I am getting slower and slower at updating this site as I am doing so many different things now but I have decided to keep it going as I still have loads of visitors and I hope it might still be useful. Much of it was written awhen I was much younger but I have left it as I originally wrote it.
I have now learnt how to manage most of my dyslexic problems so this news page may not be as useful as in the past but hopefully it does show how, with help, it is possible to manage in the education system. I actually started school when I as 5 with a Statement of Special Educational Needs but modern technology has opened up so many paths for me. I have learnt so many little tricks that have allowed me to move forward.
Raleigh International
I am planning to go to Malaysia this summer to work as a volunteer in a small village in the jungle in the Sahab region of Borneo . I am going as part of the Raleigh International overseas programme and will be undertaking a community project, such as building classrooms or installing a gravity feed fresh water supply. I will be away for 5 weeks and it sounds as if it will be an amazing challenge.
Raleigh International is a youth development charity which enables young people to undertake sustainable community, environmental and adventure projects around the world.
My exams
I have now finished all my A Levels and just wait for the results in August. These will arrive when I am away. I am hoping to go to Oxford Uni in October if everything goes well - I hope to receive my results by radio when I am in the jungle!
School Behaviour Database
My behaviour database continues to be successful in various schools in Surrey - when ever there is an incident in a school, this database allows it to logged centrally so everyone can view the details. These incidents can vary from behavioural matters to phone calls home or just general observations which you feel should be logged somewhere for that pupil. Ofsted (June 2006) noted what an excellent tool the database is and that it was an 'excellent facility to support self evaluation'
The most useful part of the database is probably the feature that enables each pupil's behaviour can be analysed individually and graphs can be made showing types of incidents / times of day the incidents are happening / subjects incidents are happening in. Graphs can be printed and used as evidence in such meetings as disciplinary hearings and Child Protection meetings. The database has been twice congratulated by the independent Chair at Child Protection Conferences as a system that with clarity evidences occurrences in that it can show positives & negatives, including recurring problems that are beyond the control of the school.
